Jury Change Announcement

August 24, 2007 — Mark Steinberg, violinist of the celebrated Brentano String Quartet, will replace Gerhard Schulz as a member of the competition jury. Shulz is unable to attend the competition due to illness.

June 7, 2006 — We are very happy to welcome Mariana Sirbu who replaces long-time BISQC associate Andrew Dawes on the 2007 Competition Jury. Ms. Sirbu is one of Europe’s most respected musicians. She founded and was first violinist of the Academica Quartet from 1968 to 1984. Currently Ms. Sirbu is professor of violin at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelhsson Bartholdy” in Leipzig, Germany, and is visiting professor at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick, Ireland.

BISQC thanks long-time friend Andrew Dawes for his inspired leadership and vision since BISQC’s inception in 1983. His knowledge, experience, and artistry have significantly contributed to BISQC’s success and reputation.

April 7, 2006 — Ten acclaimed musicians, members of some of the top quartets in the world, have been chosen as jurors for the 9th Banff International String Quartet Competition.
