Alberta New Media Industry Unites at Business of Digital Media: Financing Session

Alberta’s digital media industry came together as 50 digital media producers gathered for The Business of Digital Media: Financing presentation on October 25 and 26 in Calgary at the Network for Emerging and Wireless Technologies (NEWT) and Edmonton at the TELUS World of Science. Presented by the Digital Media Association of Alberta and the Banff New Media Institute’s Accelerator Program, the information session provided participants with strategies for identifying funding opportunities and seeking financing for their projects. Sources of support and application procedures were highlighted by representatives from Canadian Heritage’s Trades Route Program, Canada Revenue Agency’s Scientific Research & Experimental Development Program, Foreign Affairs & International Trade, National Research Council Canada’s Industrial Research Assistance Program, and Telefilm Canada.

The events were moderated by Accelerator manager Daryl Beatty and Ken Bautista, co-founder and CEO of Hotrocket Studios Inc. Speakers encouraged the development of the digital media and technology sectors in Alberta and provided tips for preparing effective applications for financial support. The sessions were a valuable experience for participants who were provided with a clear view of provincial and national incentives that could enhance their business ventures.
