BNMI Alumni
BNMI alumnus Elaine Bomberry is from Six Nations on the Grand River in Ontario. She is a freelance Aboriginal arts activist/promoter/radio producer, and helped create the Best Music of Aboriginal Canada recording category for the JUNO Awards. Elaine was a volunteer producer/host of her own radio show called Aboriginal Airwaves on CKRZ-FM for eight years. The show focused on contemporary Aboriginal music and arts.
Elaine has participated in many BNMI programs including Synch or Stream (1999), Emotional Computing: Performing Arts, Fiction and Interactive Experience (2000), and Aboriginal Streams (2001). She also produced a co-production at BNMI in 2002 with Dave Deleary called the Aboriginal Music Experience. This was an Internet and radio documentary focused on Aboriginal music from many genres, styles, and traditions, presented in three, one-hour audio segments. As a spin-off of her co-production in Banff, Elaine has become the Executive Producer of the "Rez Bluez" program on the Aboriginal People's Television Network.
"The Aboriginal Music Experience...a radio and web documentary series won its last possible award. On November 26, Part 2 on Rez Bluez won the first award for Best Aboriginal Music Radio Program at the Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. The American Indian Radio on Satellite network is now in discussions with me to air this state-side."
