Opera at The Banff Centre

D'Addario Foundation

Celebrate the rich history of opera at The Banff Centre with three masterworks from the opera world: Henry Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, and Benjamin Britten’s Phaedra and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Presented on the stage of the Eric Harvie Theatre in new productions conceived by Kelly Robinson, the performances feature scenic and lighting designs by Scott Reid and Harry Frehner.

Phaedra, a powerful and moving cantata, will open the evening, then some of North America’s future opera stars retell the tragic story of Dido, queen of Carthage, and her fateful love for the Trojan prince Aeneas. The singers will be accompanied by participants from the Summer Chamber Music program.
