The Banff Centre 360° Assessment Tool
An essential element of developing a strong suite of leadership competencies for individuals is accurate feedback on leadership behaviour in the workplace context. The Banff Centre has developed an online tool to link The Banff Centre's Competency Matrix directly to a 360º leadership assessment report.
Seven of our nine public leadership programs – Building Personal Leadership, Coaching and Communicating for Performance, Leading and Managing for Results, Leading Teams for High Performance, Leading Strategically, and The Leadership Challenge: Managing Change Successfully, Managing in the Middle – incorporate this competency-based learning and development approach, along with a 360º assessment report.
Process for The Banff Centre 360° Assessment Tool
Prior to your arrival in Banff for your program, you, your peers, reports and supervisor will have the opportunity to participate in your personal 360° assessment. You select your assessors in order to receive as broad a perspective on your performance as possible.
You, and your assessors, will complete the feedback survey on-line, using a tool that has been especially developed for your program through a partnership with The Banff Centre and Corporate Compass® Assessment Solutions. The online tool asks you to assess yourself against statements which describe proficiency of each competency covered in your program. You will indicate if you believe you completely agree, mostly agree, somewhat agree, mostly disagree or completely disagree with each statement. Your assessors will respond to the same statements, thinking particularly of how they have observed your behaviour relative to that competency.
The report will be provided to you, in confidence, during your program at Banff, and is intended to assist you in developing your personal leadership development action plan. We ensure this information is handled with the strictest of confidence; no one at your organization will be provided with a copy of the outcome. The report also ensures the confidentiality of those who assessed you. Information supplied by your colleagues is averaged and not directly attributed to any individual.
When all of the assessments are compiled in the report, graphs show how your self-assessment compares with the ratings provided by your assessors. The report will show the differences, or gaps, between how you see yourself, and how others see you. These ratings are intended for your personal development; the responses and corresponding assessments anchor your leadership learning to the 24 competencies in The Banff Centre Competency Matrix and provide significant insight and opportunity for rich learning along your leadership journey.
