Two of Canada’s true gentleman singer/songwriters, storytellers and troubadours
As individual artists, these men are wonderful. Together, they are amazing! Valdy has won multiple Junos and is a mainstay of Canadian folk music. Gary Fjellgaard is also a Juno Award winner and a recent inductee to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. In 2000, these two veterans of Canadian folk and country music teamed up to record the album Contenders, and since then, they have taken to the road to the delight of audiences nationwide. A near-perfect team, their songs touch a common ground with the affection and warmth that only two friends can share. “Western Roots” they call it — music that draws on all aspects of life in the west, echoing the mountains and the sea, the cowboys and fisherman, loggers and oil-well roustabouts, the sunsets and the rain, the streak of rugged independence and contrariness, generosity and warmth. Two memorable and endearing guys, two guitars and two dozen songs or more to tell you where they’ve been, where they’re at and where they’re heading. In so doing, they provide the audience with a deep understanding of what it is to be Canadian and how this vast country shapes its people. With an innate understanding of each other’s music and styles, these seasoned pros and best buddies join their voices and guitars in a beautiful live performance you really don’t want to miss.
