Corb Lund has certainly hit his stride, becoming one of the most successful roots artists in the country today. Playing everything from western swing to Waylon-esque country to ragtime and acoustic blues, this one-time rodeo rider raised in the foothills of the Rockies and former member of the Alberta-based band the Smalls has found his way to his own brand of edgy country-roots music, building up his band, the Hurtin’ Albertans, and touring non-stop for the last five years. The band has criss-crossed Canada countless times, handled five European and three Australian tours, and toured continually in the US, playing well over 250 dates a year. Now, this Juno and Country Music Association award-winner is being honoured with not one but two gold records for his 2002 release Five Dollar Bill and last year’s even more successful Hair In My Eyes Like A Highland Steer. What makes Corb special? Not only is he a brilliant songwriter who seems to outline the Canadian experience — especially for people in Western Canada — but his songs are universal: from Australia to Europe, audiences relate both to his songs and the band’s great live performance. Don’t miss Corb Lund and the Hurtin’ Albertans when they return to Banff as part of their annual Christmas time tour in Western Canada.
