Pan Pan Theatre: Oedipus Loves YouSaturday, January 20, 2007 – 8 p.m.
Come to the theatre… bring your mother… it’s a great night out. — Sigmund Freud If you only take your mother to one incest-themed, punkish, myth mongering event this year… Pan Pan Theatre, one of Ireland’s most innovative contemporary companies, explores some of the questions posed by Sophocles two and a half thousand years ago in their retelling of the classic tale. Oedipus, you’ll recall, unwittingly killed his father, and then married his mother — in the process putting a frame around the life’s work of Sigmund Freud, and perhaps Jerry Springer. Featuring live music played by the actors and using aesthetics more associated with the visual arts, Pan Pan give you lots to look at, listen to, and think about in this edgy, boundary-pushing performance that dissects the original myth while asking: What can Oedipus tell us today. Come and find out! Recommended for ages 14 and up. For more information visit their website |
