Compadres (Oscar Lopez and James Keelaghan)Sunday, November 18, 2007 – 8:00 p.m.
Compadre is a term used to define a very special friendship beyond the norm. Describing Compadres, Suze Casey, artistic director of the Calgary Folk Club, clearly understands these guys. “Juno award winning solo artists James Keelaghan and Oscar Lopez are friends, musical partners and most definitely Compadres! They capture the essence of Canada. Solid Celtic tradition stirred up with Latin fire and spirit, the honoring of traditional roots with the exploration of new ideas, passion and compassion finely balanced with integrity and innovation. Globally influenced yet remaining true to their roots, a cohesive whole while maintaining an individual identity. No one, including Oscar and James, knows where a Compadres concert will lead — however, we all know it will be heartwarming, it will be fun, and we will all feel privileged to witness the mixture of creative brilliance, astonishing talent and sheer skill level they bring to the stage. There’s no fear here as they support and cajole each other into exploring new musical territory. They call their music “Celtino” – we call it inspired and magical!” Joining Oscar and James are Hugh Macmillan (bass and guitars) and Raphael Geronimo (percussion). Compadres, Canadian, Cool! |
