One of Canada’s greatest comic actors, Newfoundland’s Andy Jones presents a wonderful mediation on Newfoundland, daily life, and everyone’s fear of mortality in his one-man theatrical show “An Evening with Uncle Val.” A 70-year old fisherman displaced from his outport home, Uncle Val is trapped in big-city St John’s, inching through retirement as a babysitter for his spoiled-rotten grandchildren, Jimmy and Kimmy, within the ongoing drama of his obnoxious son-in-law’s pub. His memories of times gone by keep him warm through the dangers of Maritime winter or, as he calls it, the Seniors’ Olympics.

A founding member of Codco and a professional writer and actor for over 30 years, Andy Jones will fill you with the joy of storytelling and laughter as we follow Uncle Val’s struggles to find out what’s left in life, if there’s any magic or mystery left to discover, and if there is room for an old sailor in the suburbs.
