Combine revved-up folk dance rhythms, remarkable lyrics with pointed social commentary, exceptional musicianship, and insanely catchy melodies and you’ve got the Oysterband, the greatest British folk-roots band of all time. The Oysters were different and unusual, and since the 1980s they have been determined to lead the way with a modern folk-based British music with rock dynamics and sharp, engaging songwriting. Acoustic at heart, sometimes intense, sometimes rocking, it is music for the head, the heart, and the body. Since 1978 they’ve toured in 35 countries — festivals, bars, rallies and jails — and released 12 studio albums. Their most recent Meet You There is inspired stuff full of superb vocal work, brilliant lyrics, and intriguing instrumentation that preserves the bands exceptional reputation. The passion and energy of their live performances has become legendary and recent experiences show them with a renewed sense of purpose, belief, and fire. The band has come of age, and the most exciting and fruitful time in the career of this thrilling outfit just might be right now. (Did we mention that this happens to be the presenter’s favourite band of all time?) For more information visit their website. |
