Your heart starts dancing to the upbeat rhythm of a live jazz quintet and sings at the sight of the dancers. So much to take in, like a camera capturing one series after another of motion and emotion. From snapshots of anxious gestures to the soft lens of lost love, your focus zooms in and out to capture a variety of moods and moves. A tinge of blue: cool and jazzy, high drama with a grainy tone; a tinge of red: exotic sound, ruffled skirts and heels, softer focus on live portraits of jazz greats; a tinge of nostalgia: tap, Lindy Hop, swing, Latin and Brazilian, multiple exposures through a variety of lenses from the break-neck speed of tap dancers’ feet gone wild to the gentle rhythm of a sensuous bossa nova. Sarisa Figueroa, artistic director of DJD’s new production Tinge and Tone, has created an evening of diverse jazz that will grab your emotions, tickle your funny bone, showcase the individual styles and amazing collaboration of the dancers and the musicians, and once again prove that DJD is indeed “music for the eyes!” Savour the flavour of this rich blend of mood, music and motion.
