Celebrating their 25th anniversary, one of Canada’s favourite and legendary bands returns to Banff on the Canada Day long weekend for a fun, high-energy outdoor concert featuring their musical blend of traditional indie folk-rock with a strong dose of Celtic flavour and soul. Formed in 1983 as a folk trio, Spirit of the West evolved into an innovative alternative band employing combinations of electric and acoustic instruments and crossing many musical boundaries. With their songwriting and musical talents, the group penned some truly memorable songs including “Save This House,” “And If Venice is Sinking,” and of course “Home for a Rest.”

They have 12 well-received albums under their belt — four gold and two platinum — which, along with extensive touring from the beginning in Canada, the US, Europe, and the UK, helped build a worldwide base of dedicated, passionate fans and making them one of the most successful alternative bands in Canada through the 1990s. Currently, all five band members are involved with individual and solo projects, but they continue to tour and perform as Spirit of the West, proving themselves to be road-worthy and durable and highly enjoyable with their engaging tunes, energetic musicianship, humour, and potent performances.
