Paul Duncan Fleck
(1934 - 1992)
A cultural statesman, visionary administrator and passionate
communicator, Paul Fleck was fond of saying that he had the best job
in Canada.
As president of The Banff Centre from 1982 to 1992, Dr. Fleck led
a renaissance of vision and influence -- creating and refining arts
and management programs and carrying the Centre's reputation to
international heights.
Dr. Fleck had a major impact, not only on The Banff Centre, but
on the Canadian cultural and business community as a whole. Earlier
in his career, he served as president of the Ontario College of Art
and chairman of the University of Western Ontario's English
department.
Dr. Fleck's passion for the written and spoken word, and The
Banff Centre's history, led him to champion the growth of the
Centre's library and the development of its archives.
The Paul D. Fleck Library and Archives is a fitting memorial to a
man who loved language and The Banff Centre.
