Mountain Culture: Dr. Jim Perrin (Oswestry, Wales)

Alex Ross One of the U.K.’s most accomplished outdoor and adventure writers, Jim Perrin has twice been awarded the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountaineering Literature. The awards were for two biographies, Menlove and The Villain, about towering figures in British climbing. A notable rock climber in his youth, Perrin is the author of books and essays including On and Off the Rocks, River Map, and Snowdon: Biography of a Mountain. A featured guest speaker at the 2005 Banff Mountain Book Festival, Perrin wrote a biography of iconoclastic mountaineer Don Whillans that was awarded the prize for Best Book on Mountaineering History at that Festival. In Banff, Perrin will be working on his work-in-progress, a biography of groundbreaking mountaineers Eric Shipton and H.W. Tilman.
