For immediate release March 17, 2004 CCRMA Summer Workshops move to Banff Stanford University’s Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) Summer Workshops are headed for the Canadian Rockies this summer. The Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada will host six CCRMA programs in July and August 2004, while CCRMA’s Stanford facilities undergo major renovations. “The renovation of our facilities coincides with an opportunity to experience an expanded set of course offerings in a fantastic setting,” says CCRMA director Chris Chafe. “The Banff Centre’s music research and production team of experts and its tradition of training the next generation matches what CCRMA is all about.” Located in a spectacular mountain setting, Music & Sound at The Banff Centre offers professional development programs for musicians and audio engineers. Audio facilities include a state-of-the-art multitrack recording studio, an audio film post production suite, digital editing and mastering suites featuring Sonic Studio HDSP and Pyramix workstations, an electroacoustic studio for music composition, and numerous performance venues. “The Centre marries state-of-the-art equipment, faculty who are leaders in the audio and music technology industries, and a retreat-like setting that is ideal for focused work,” says Theresa Leonard, director of audio programs at The Banff Centre. The CCRMA@Banff workshops are designed for musicians and composers interested in exploring widely used digital audio technology; as well as for engineers, computer scientists, and product designers. Programs include: Physical Interaction Design for Music (July 5 – July 16), Haptic Musical Devices (July 19 – 23), Digital Signal Processing (DSP) I: Spectral and Physical Models (July 26- August 6), Perceptual Audio Coding (August 9 – 13), Digital Signal Processing (DSP) II: Digital Audio Effects (August 16 – 27), and ANET: High Quality Audio over Networks Summit (August 20 – 22). Program faculty for CCRMA@Banff include: Chris Chafe, Theresa Leonard, Scott Wilson, Michael Gurevich, Bill Verplank, Charles Nichols, Perry Cook, Xavier Serra, Marina Bosi, Richard Goldberg, Jonathan Abel, Dave Berners, and Julius O. Smith. Registration is now open for the six CCRMA@Banff workshops, and is limited to 15 – 20 participants.
