The Banff Mountain Book Festival,
presented by Canadian Mountain Holidays, celebrates the world’s
best mountain books through readings, speakers, seminars, book
signings, a book fair, and the presentation of internationally
recognized awards for mountain literature.
Headlining this year’s festival
was Greg Child’s account of his latest book "Over the Edge" —
the story of four young American climbers kidnapped at gunpoint in
the mountains of Kyrgyzstan in the summer of 2000.
Joining Greg Child at the Wednesday evening opening of the book
festival was best-selling travel writer Tim Cahill and Canada's own
Pierre Berton. Thursday evening's
program included climber Lynn Hill and ecologist and adventurer Karsten Heuer.
This year's daytime guests
included Yvon Chouinard, Jerry Kobalenko,
Greg Mortenson, and Eric Simonson. The 2002 Literary Luncheons
featured Dermot Somers and Roger Hubank.
