Vertical stories wanted for 2005 Mountain Book Festival

The 2005 Banff Mountain Book Festival is looking for mountain stories of exploration and discovery. The festival, presented by CMH Heli-Skiing/Hiking and National Geographic, is seeking entries for its 12th annual international book competition.

An international jury will judge the submissions and present awards in four categories: Mountain Literature, Mountain Exposition, Mountain Image, and Adventure Travel. In addition, they will select the best overall book, regardless of category, for Grand Prize.

To enter the competition, submissions must be in English, except in the category of Mountain Image in which submissions in all languages will be admitted. Books must have been published after January 1, 2004 and seven copies of each submission must be received at the festival office in Banff by July 15, 2005. For titles published after June 30, the deadline for entries is August 15, 2005.

The largest book festival of its kind in the world, the Banff Mountain Book Festival brings the spirit of outdoor adventure and the tradition of mountain literature to Banff every year, uniting writers, publishers, editors, photographers and, of course, readers. This year’s festival will feature guest speakers, readings, seminars, the international book competition, a book fair, signings, and launches. Special guests will include mountaineers and adventurers Karsten Heuer, Arlene Blum, Helen Thayer, Jim Perrin, Andy Cave and many more.
