Andrew Burr: “Barry Moore — Upset Rapid (6), Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona”
“During our 13th day floating the idyllic Colorado River through Grand Canyon National Park, we arrived at Upset Rapid, Mile 149.8. This rapid, only a 6 out of 10 on the Grand Canyon difficultly scale, was merely average Colorado River whitewater. However, after a long day on the river, our private trip of six little rafts was coping with tattered nerves — the result of two weeks of scouting, reading, running, and rescuing boats from the chocolate-coloured, milky waters of the canyon. Evening light bouncing off the canyon walls allowed me to capture this image of our trip leader’s clean run, close to the wall, while navigating the chaotic boils of Upset Rapid.”
Andrew Burr’s passion is his photography. His goal is to capture rare moments of intimate human emotion set against the amazing background that is our natural environment. His photographic exploits have taken him from Baja to the Brooks Range, and most places in between. Burr’s favourite backdrop, however, is the American Southwest, where he has climbed dozens of desert towers, explored numerous slot canyons and floated many of the major rivers — all with camera gear in tow. Burr has worked with Patagonia, Cloudveil and Black Diamond and has had several photographs published by Climbing and Rock & Ice magazines.
