Dusty Demerson: “McClure Aspens”
“Spring is frequently a difficult time to make photographs in the Rockies. The forest floor is still brown, and pockets of dirty snow dot the landscape. I had travelled past this stand of aspens at the base of McClure Pass a dozen times but always at the wrong time — poor light, wind, no leaves, etc. On this day in late May, it was perfect. The new aspen leaves were almost the colour of limes, and the overcast made them seem to glow.”
Dusty Demerson has been photographing the landscape of the western U.S.A. for nearly 20 years. Demerson was trained as a photojournalist and won numerous awards for news and sports photography before pursuing his career as a portrait and landscape photographer. Based in Crested Butte, Colorado, since 1987, he is represented locally by the Rijks Family Gallery.
