Marc Adamus: Crater Lake
“This mid-winter image of Crater Lake was captured during a five-day snowshoe trip around the rim of this ancient volcano, now home to the world’s deepest lake. In the afternoon of my second day, I noted a beautiful composition that would be favoured by the eastern light of sunrise. After camping not too far away and awaking before dawn in 0°F (-15°C) temperatures, I returned to the rim with tripod and Canon 5D camera. I then rendered this image just before the sun appeared, using a graduated neutral filter to control the exposure.”
Marc Adamus is a passionate and dedicated landscape photographer based in Corvallis, Oregon. He has been honoured with several national and international awards, and his work has been published worldwide. Adamus, 27, will stop at nothing to capture an image that defines a place at its most rare and magical moments. “Photography is an expression of my love for wilderness and the desire to share its beauty with others.” His images are bold and highly recognizable, often using wide angles and very dramatic light. The late Galen Rowell has been his idol and inspiration.
