Monica Dalmasso: Stop Global Warming!

Monica Dalmasso: Stop Global Warming!

“Here in the Chamonix valley, we can see our glaciers melting incredibly quickly. Walking on the Mer de Glace, I was trying to find a crevasse deep enough to rappel down and take some ice-climbing shots. We came upon a good one and decided to rappel into it. The water had polished the ice walls, creating a strange atmosphere — blue, quiet and peaceful. After about 25 metres of rappelling, I discovered a haunting handprint in the ice. Who had made it? When? How? We had no answer. I didn’t know why or how, but my first thought about the handprint was, Stop global warming!

Based in Chamonix, Monica Dalmasso divides her passions between climbing, travel, and photography. In ten years of the latter, she has shifted her focus from sport to commercial to agency work. Since 2001 she has been the official photographer of the Raid World Championship. Her search for the perfect movement, her work on special light and atmosphere, and her detached view of sports and nature enable her to work with all subjects related to motion and emotion.
