Jeff Friesen: Carmanah Creek
“Sunlight dances in Carmanah Creek’s clear waters on an early summer afternoon. Downstream, Canada’s tallest trees sway in the sky before land gives way to the Pacific Ocean. It was not always going to be this way. The Carmanah Valley, one of the few pristine watersheds left on Vancouver Island, was slated for clear-cut logging in 1988. Conservationist Randy Stoltman scouted the area six months before the logging was to begin and alerted the country to its fate. Thanks to his efforts, it is now a provincial park.”
Jeff Friesen has seen his photography published worldwide and has won several international awards for his images. His photographs have appeared in magazines such as National Geographic Adventure, Canoe and Kayak, Canadian Geographic, Gardening Life, Pacific Yachting, and Beautiful British Columbia. Jeff is currently based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
