Richard Wear: Untitled
“There I was, alone in the woods near Golden, B.C., shivering in the -20°C weather, waiting to confront a lone male wolf who had been following me for the past ten minutes. I was comfortable knowing that the owner of the captive wolf was nearby, but I was still leery about the unpredictability of a wild creature. We had been playing a stealthy hide-and-seek game through the thick forest, the wolf stalking and observing while I prepped my camera. Finally, I crouched behind a thicket and waited for the inevitable stare-down. With camera pre-focused, I stood and starting shooting when he burst from the bush. The wolf froze, teeth bared and eyes ablaze. I quickly captured the images and backed away, hoping he was more curious than aggressive. Fortunately, I was correct and my impromptu hiking partner disappeared into the bush, leaving me with a permanent image of what prey sees before their possible demise.”
