Darrell Wilks: Ice to Sky
“The Athabasca Glacier, located in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada, is a huge river of ice flowing from the Columbia Icefield. Easy access makes this one of the most famous glaciers in the world. On this overcast but not overly cold day, it took some time to get the picture. My travel companions patiently waited in the truck while I stubbornly waited for the light. The clouds were moving fast, but not fast enough. The sun kept popping in and out of view, teasing me with bits of light on the mountain. I finally packed up, confident that I had done my best to capture the scene before me. I hope you enjoy this landscape as much as I do.”
Darrell Wilks lives in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. When he is not breathing air from a tank and expanding his large underwater photographic library, he enjoys exploring land-based photography. His passion to share the visual wonders around us finds outlet in the production of fine art prints. Wilks became enamoured with photography at the age of 16; since then, many days in the darkroom have given way to many hours at the computer. He works at every aspect of his photography, from eyepiece to paper, using his knowledge and skills to share the experience of “being there”.
