Robert Berdan: Swift Fox

Robert Berdan: Swift Fox

“The swift fox (Vulpes velox) was considered extirpated (a species no longer existing in the wild in Canada), but due to the efforts of various breeding programs that release foxes into the wild, this species has now been downgraded to endangered (a species threatened with imminent extinction) in Canada. These foxes are rare, and their range limited to southwestern Alberta. I was granted permission to photograph this free-roaming animal on the Cochrane Ecological reserve early one December morning. ”

Robert Berdan trained as a biologist and carried out research at the universities of Calgary and Alberta before starting his own business, Science & Art Multimedia. Robert is a web developer, a teacher and a nature photographer. His work has been published in a variety of magazines and books, and many of his images have been donated to organizations involved in the conservation and rehabilitation of wildlife. Robert’s photos won two category awards in the 2002 Banff Mountain photography competition and a Special Mention in 2004.
