Banff Adventure Photography Workshop

September 12 - 15, 2008

Mountain Culture at The Banff Centre and the National Geographic Expeditions Council are pleased to offer the 2008 Banff Adventure Photography Workshop.

This is your chance to work alongside a National Geographic photographer in an outdoor setting and take your photography to a whole new level! Intense and interactive seminars with award-winning adventure photographer Alec Pytlowany and National Geographic photographers Gordon Wiltsie and Bill Hatcher will be interspersed with field work and critique. Participants should have off-trail hiking skills and expect to walk uphill and at elevations over 5000 feet.

2008 Application Process: In order to limit this seminar to photographers with an existing knowledge of the fundamentals of photography, applicants are required to submit a portfolio of 10 images for review. Please view the 2008 Application Form and Submission Guidelines and submit it with your portfolio. We expect to have more applicants than available positions, so please register soon! A non-refundable application fee of $50 will apply.

  • Friday, September 12: Welcome reception and orientation to the program
  • Saturday, September 13: Lectures and fieldwork
  • Sunday, September 14: Critique of field performance, fieldwork
  • Monday, October 15: Critique of field performance, screening of the "best of the workshop"

Full Workshop Registration includes:

  • Three nights private accommodation at The Banff Centre
  • Three meals daily
  • All sessions and fieldwork activities
  • Transportation to/from fieldwork sites
  • Complimentary access to CD/DVD writers, slide/film scanners, etc.
  • Models participating in a range of mountain activities.

Who? National Geographic photographers Gordon Wiltsie and Bill Hatcher will facilitate the workshop, along with Canadian photographer Alec Pytlowany. The sessions are designed for photographers with an existing knowledge of the fundamentals of photography.
When? September 12 - 15, 2008
Where? The Banff Centre; field work at various Bow Valley locations
How Many? A maximum of 25 participants
How Much? Workshop Only: $890 CDN
This fee includes all sessions, some meals,  and transportation to/from field work sites.
Workshop and Accommodation:
$1050 CDN (single room),
$970 CDN (shared room) - based on availability.
This fee includes everything listed above, three meals daily, plus three nights accommodation (arriving September 12 and departing September 15).
All participants are expected to bring digital cameras and their own laptops; there will no film processing available on campus.
All prices include 5% GST.
