Bill has been photographing adventure, science, and expedition stories in mountain and desert regions of the world for over 20 years. His images have illustrated several books, including Desire and Ice, Caves: Exploring Hidden Realms, and Great Climbs: A Celebration of World Mountaineering.

Bill’s work has also appeared in magazines such as National Geographic, American Photo, Newsweek, Life, Outside, Adventure, Smithsonian and Outdoor Photographer. Bill is a regular contributor to National Geographic magazine. Bill’s assignments for National Geographic have involved exploration around the world.

Bill lives near the San Juan Mountains in southwestern Colorado.
