Leland J. Jackson
Leland J. Jackson is an associate professor of aquatic
community/ecosystem ecology at the University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta. His formal
training as been at Queen's University (Biology), University of British Columbia (Oceanography),
McGill University (Biology), and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (PDF). His
research interests include land-water coupling in riverine ecosystems, land use and
water quality and quantity in southern Alberta rivers, environmental economics,
biogeochemical cycling of trace metals in lakes, the role of fisheries management in affecting
organochlorine contaminant fluxes in Great Lakes food webs, and processes that affect
regime shifts in shallow lakes. Jackson teaches aquatic ecology, plant and animal
ecophysiological ecology, ecological modelling, and ecology for non-majors. He has
participated in provincial workshops to draft and implement a water strategy for the province of
Alberta, and sits on the board of directors of the Alberta Lake Management Society.
