Career Development Residency
If Dan Burdick came to The Banff Centre to recharge artistically, you would never have guessed that he was anything less than creative energy bursting at the seams! A talented and established tuba player with performance credits that include the Canadian Brass and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Dr. Burdick enrolled in the fall 2004 career development residency while on sabbatical from his associate professorship at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. As with many artists who come to Banff for the residency programs, Dan immediately became part of a supportive and close-knit community of musicians, making life-long friends with the other residents in the fall program. Taking full advantage of the many performance opportunities, Dan collaborated with other music residents to present several ensemble performances, as well as presenting a solo recital to group of adoring fans. Dan’s personal goal for his residency was to record a CD, which was accomplished with the help of The Banff Centre's audio engineers. Although it was his first time at the Centre, we're sure Dan will be back again soon!
In parting, Dan had this to say of his time in Banff: "The environment of the Centre allowed me total freedom to explore my needs … I feel re-invigorated to return to my teaching with new ideas and a higher level of performance achievement. Thank you to The Banff Centre – bravo!"
