Seán Carpio

Drums, Ireland
International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music

A talented and spirited jazz percussionist, Seán Carpio graduated from Dublin’s New Park Music School in 2001 and has since made a career of performing and teaching music. In Ireland, Seán has performed with some of the country’s leading musicians, as well as with the National Symphony Orchestra and the National Concert Orchestra. Eager to grow musically and artistically, Seán studied Carnatic classical percussion for three months in India, and traveled thousands of miles from home to attend Dave Douglas’s International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music at The Banff Centre in 2003 and 2005.

While in Banff, Seán had the opportunity to work in a truly international setting with musicians from three continents and over 10 countries. He also collaborated with the visiting artists and faculty in the daily workshop sessions and on stage. At the end of the 2005 program, Seán remarked: “on this second visit to The Banff Centre, I have been surprised by an even more intense workshop. My goals have been surpassed, and new ones have been set.”
