Mark Abley is a poet, journalist and travel writer. Born in England in 1955, he grew up in northern Ontario, southern Alberta and central Saskatchewan, and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University. His book Beyond Forget: Rediscovering the Prairies was published in Canada, the U.S. and England. He is the author of two books of poetry, Blue Sand, Blue Moon and Glasburyon. For the last decade, he has worked at the Montreal Gazette as a feature writer and as the book review editor. He won a National Newspaper Award for critical writing, and was shortlisted in the same awards for international reporting. Before joining the Gazette, he wrote and narrated four series for CBC Radio's Ideas, and was a contributing editor to Saturday Night and Maclean's.
