Mary Anne Barkhouse was born in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1961 and currently lives in Toronto. She is a member of the Nimpkish Band at Alert Bay on Vancouver Island. She received an Honours Degree in the New Media Program from the Ontario College of Art in 1991. Her work has been exhibited in Multiplicity: A New Cultural Strategy (1993), University of British Columbia Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver; First Nations Art (1990-1995), Woodland Cultural Centre, Brantford; Alternative: Contemporary Photo Compositions (1996), McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinberg; the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography, Ottawa; and recently with the Lick Artists' Collective, Toronto (1997). Her work is in the collections of the Indian Art Centre, Ottawa; UBC Museum of Anthropology, Vancouver; Thunder Bay Art Gallery; The Banff Centre for the Arts, and numerous private collections.
