Michael Belmore was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 1971 and currently lives in Toronto. Michael is of Ojibway heritage. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1994 with an A.O.C.A. in Sculpture/Installation. Michael's installations incorporate acrylic, metal, wood, photography, and text. He has exhibited his work at Garnet Press Gallery, Toronto, in a solo, site-specific installation, Reformation (1996). His work has been included in numerous group exhibitions since 1988: the Lick Artists' Collective, Toronto (1997); Naked State: A Selected View of Toronto Art (1994), The Power Plant, Toronto; Native Love (1995-1996), Montreal, touring to Artspace, Peterborough and AKA, Saskatoon. He has also exhibited at Gallery 76, Toronto (1994) and the Workscene Gallery, Toronto (1993). Michael's work is in the collections of the Indian Art Centre, Ottawa; McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Kleinburg; Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and numerous private collections. Contributor to: |
