Lewis DeSoto

Lewis DeSoto was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa, to a family that arrived from Europe in the eighteenth century and eventually located to farming country near Vryheid in Zululand, after the Boer War. After emigrating to Canada in the 1960s, he attended the University of British Columbia where he received a Master of Fine Arts. He has exhibited paintings in public and private galleries across Canada. His short stories and essays have been published in numerous journals. He was awarded the Writer’s Union Short Prose Award, and he was short-listed for the CBC Canadian Literary Awards. DeSoto is a past editor of The Literary Review of Canada. He lives in Toronto and Normandy.
