Laura Robinson is a Toronto-based writer, but divides her time between Ontario and Winnipeg, where she is co-writing and co-producing a feature film with Buffalo Gal Pictures. She has been a regular contributor to the Globe and Mail since 1990. In the spring of 2004, HarperCollins published her first children’s book, Great Girls: Profiles of Awesome Canadian Athletes, which she co-wrote with her fourteen-year-old niece Majia. Other publications include the anthology of her work, She Shoots, She Scores: Canadian Perspectives on Women and Sport (Thompson Educational Publishing, 1997), Crossing the Line: Violence and Sexual Assault in Canada’s National Sport (McClelland and Stewart, 1998), and Black Tights: Women, Sport, and Sexuality (HarperCollins, 2002). In 2002, Robinson won the Play the Game Award for best investigative sports journalism in Copenhagen, Denmark. Robinson was Journalist in Residence at the University of British Columbia in the fall of 2004 and still prefers to ride her bike or ski over just about anything else.
