"When we speak
of contemporary Aboriginal dance, there are no other published books
of this genre that I'm aware of. This makes Chinook Winds a
significant contribution."
- Paul Seesequasis, (as quoted in Prairie Books NOW)
During Chinook Winds,
choreographer Alejandro Ronceria and a company of twelve dancers and
seven instructors from diverse Aboriginal communities explored
contemporary dance rooted in principles of traditional Aboriginal
culture. Chinook Winds combines articles, photographs,
poetry, personal memoir and interviews to document the stunning
results.
The first dance piece of the
Aboriginal Dance Program was produced by the Aboriginal Arts
Program, a unique cultural partnership between the Aboriginal Film
and Video Art Alliance and The Banff Centre.
Published by 7th Generation Books
and the Banff Centre Press.
