There are a wide variety of organizations that provide funds for research. Many research projects benefit from the three federal granting councils, which have a number of funding programs. It is best to consult their websites directly. The councils are:

The federal government provides funding for research infrastructure projects through the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). These tend to be large awards, and The Banff Centre sends out a call for Letters of Intent well in advance of CFI application deadlines. If you are interested in seeking funds from CFI, please consult with the Head of your division, and with the Office of Research, well in advance of application deadlines. Visit CFI for further information.

The Alberta government also provides a number of funding programs for research projects. Among the websites to consult, one might wish to look to Alberta Innovation and Science, Alberta Ingenuity, and the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research (AHFMR).
