The Gwen Hadley Scholarships in Literary Arts Endowment
Those who knew Gwen Hadley remember her passion for the special landscape she called home. Her dedication to The Banff Centre and her enthusiasm for its programs and performances, as well as her close friendships across the Centre’s campus, were an important part of Gwen’s strong sense of place in the mountains.
The Gwen Hadley Scholarships in Literary Arts Endowment, coordinated by The Banff Centre, will contribute to the professional development, through scholarships, of an exceptional emerging or professional writer in a Banff Centre Literary Arts program each year. The recipient of the Gwen Hadley Scholarship in Literary Arts will benefit from the world-class instruction and mentorship provided by The Banff Centre’s faculty. Unique in Canada, these programs provide valuable professional development to both emerging and established writers.
A Proud Legacy
Since 1937, some of the best and brightest Canadian writers, journalists, and poets have passed through The Banff Centre’s doors including: Margaret Atwood, Ann-Marie MacDonald, Yann Martel, Gloria Sawai, Alice Munro, Timothy Findley, and W.O. Mitchell.
The Banff Centre’s Literary Arts programs have grown from one six-week program held each May to a full roster of dynamic and impactful programs offered throughout the calendar year.
Your support makes a difference
With the support of donors, The Banff Centre has built commemorative benches, located in a scenic spot near her office, to honour Gwen and to provide artists, visitors, and staff an opportunity to enjoy and be inspired by the scenery at the Centre, just as Gwen was.
