Patricia Clifford was a teacher, education consultant and researcher, and a writer. She published widely in academic journals and books. Her book of poetry, Embracing Brings You Back, was created after spending time at The Banff Centre as part of the Writing with Style program. Described as “powerful, unsentimental poems about the ability to have cancer and still retain a raunchy energy for life,” Embracing Brings You Back and Patricia Clifford’s personal interest in illness as a genre inspired her to create opportunities for other writers exploring illness in their work.

The Patricia Clifford Scholarship Endowment Fund will provide financial assistance in perpetuity to one or more writers enrolled in programs at The Banff Centre with a preference for writers exploring the topic of illness. By making a contribution to this endowment, you can honour the memory of Patricia Clifford, and help writers attend The Banff Centre’s dynamic and impactful Literary Arts programs.
