Reading the World
The only centre of its kind in North America, the Banff International Literary Translation Centre (BILTC) brings together translators from around the world to work on soon-to-be-published works. Our Reading the World Fellowship Fund event raises funds that support fellowships for translators to participate in the BILTC residency program.
Montreal, Quebec, May 23, 2007
Featuring a reading by Michel Tremblay, the second annual Reading the World fundraising event will bring The Banff Centre to the Montreal community and attract Quebec’s most influential leaders in business and community.
Michel Tremblay’s plays have been translated into thirty-five languages and presented on stages around the world. His wide-ranging oeuvre includes 14 novels, musicals such as Demain matin, Montréal m’attend, and translations and adaptations of works by, among others, Tennessee Williams.

“Darwin said, “God is in the details.” It is the same for a great translation; details illuminate the entire work. Nuance is what translates language into art. There is no substitute for the direct connection that Banff provides.”
Ann-Marie MacDonald, Canada
