Papermaking Studio
Who can apply?
Proposals for papermaking or paper/fiber-based projects are submitted through application to any Creative Residencies programs: Thematic, New Works, or Self-Directed. Artists who apply for these programs have 24-hour access to the papermaking studio and should have at least an introductory level of experience in the area(s) they plan to produce work. The Print & Paper Facilitator leads artists through a mandatory studio orientation that covers WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and studio equipment training.
History
The papermaking studio has been maintained since the early 1970’s and was a significant part of The Banff Centre’s Fibre Arts Programs throughout the 1980’s. The papermaking studio has sustained its operation over the past 20 years, and continues to support artists-in-residence. Open to participants who apply to the Creative Residencies Programs, the papermaking studio supports contemporary artistic practice in both 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional paper art forms. The dye facilities adjacent to the papermaking studio provide additional equipment and space for textile and fibre dyeing.
