Photography Studio
The photography studio at The Banff Centre is a professional facility made up of ten darkrooms, a print-finishing area and a lighting studio. Designed for individual use and efficient production, the facility supports a great variety of photography projects and allows artists 24-hour access. The goal of the photography studio is to promote interest and foster learning in the medium of photography.
The photography area supports artists in creative residencies programs, workshops, the Walter Phillips Gallery and the Banff New Media Institute. It is equipped with a lighting studio complete with electronic strobes and tungsten lights, four standard black and white darkrooms with printing capacity up to 20" X 24", three colour darkrooms - two of which have the capacity to print up to 30" X 40" and a special process darkroom with printing capacity up to 42" X 60". Film processing, digital film recording, and wide format archival digital printing up to 44" wide is available through the C.E.E. Photo Services.
* Please Note: Film and paper are the responsibility of the artist. Most of these materials can be ordered from Calgary; however, some materials may need to be specially ordered prior to arrival. Please consult with the photography facilitator to determine the needs for your project at least two weeks prior to your arrival in Banff.
